Important Safety Information

WARNING: THYROID C-CELL TUMORS. In animal studies, GLP-1 receptor agonists including tirzepatide and semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is not known whether these medications cause thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. Do not use if you or your family have a history of MTC or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain. These medications are not for people with type 1 diabetes. See full safety information.

Understanding GLP-1 Medications

How these medications help you lose weight

GLP-1 receptor agonists mimic natural hormones that regulate appetite, blood sugar, and metabolism — helping you feel full sooner and reduce cravings.

Appetite Regulation

Works in the brain's appetite center, reducing hunger signals and helping you feel satisfied with smaller portions naturally.

Metabolic Improvement

Improves insulin sensitivity, reduces blood sugar spikes, and helps your body process food into energy rather than storing it as fat.

Sustained Results

Clinical trials demonstrate patients maintain significant weight loss over 68-88 weeks, with continued improvements in blood pressure and cholesterol.

Clinical Evidence

Proven results from randomized controlled trials

~22%average body weight lost with tirzepatide 15mg over 72 weeks
~15%average body weight lost with semaglutide 2.4mg over 68 weeks

In head-to-head studies, patients on GLP-1 medications lost 4-6x more weight compared to diet and exercise alone. Results typically begin within the first 4 weeks of treatment.

Prepare For Your Visit

Questions to discuss with your physician

Being prepared helps you get the most from your consultation. Here are topics our physicians commonly address.

Which GLP-1 medication is best for me?
Your physician will consider your BMI, health conditions, insurance coverage, and personal preferences. Tirzepatide (Zepbound/Mounjaro) tends to produce the highest weight loss in clinical trials, while semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic) has a longer track record. Your doctor will help determine the best fit for your situation.
What side effects should I expect?
The most common side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. These typically improve as your body adjusts during the dose-escalation period. Your physician will start you on a low dose and gradually increase to minimize side effects.
How long until I see results?
Most patients notice reduced appetite within the first 1-2 weeks. Measurable weight loss typically begins within 4 weeks. The full maintenance dose is usually reached by week 16-20, where maximum weight loss occurs over 52-72 weeks of continued treatment.
Will my insurance cover GLP-1 medications?
Coverage varies by plan and indication. Many commercial plans now cover Wegovy and Zepbound for weight management with a qualifying BMI diagnosis. Our team helps navigate prior authorizations and can explore manufacturer savings programs that may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs.
What happens if I stop taking the medication?
Studies show that some weight regain can occur after discontinuation. This is why our program includes lifestyle coaching and ongoing behavioral support. Many patients maintain their results with continued healthy habits. Your physician will discuss long-term maintenance strategies during your consultation.
Who should not take GLP-1 medications?
Contraindications include a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2), severe gastrointestinal disease, or a history of pancreatitis. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are also contraindications. Your physician will carefully review your complete medical history before prescribing.
